What is Thai-Yoga massage?

How is it different from other styles of massage or yoga? How can it improve my health? Why has it become popular recently?

Thai-Yoga massage is also known as Thai-Yoga or Thai massage. Based in ancient traditions of Ayurvedic medicine, it is practiced in Thailand for well-being and prevention. It is relaxing and therapeutic in its application. You, the lucky recipient, passively receive the treatment.

Really, Thai massage is like having yoga done to you. You, the recipient, usually lie clothed on a padded mat on the floor. Some therapists may perform the treatment on a therapy table. Others mix Thai stretches into their regular Swedish massages.

Let’s explain some yoga basics. When we practice yoga, we are stretching our body in many directions, and we stretch many muscles altogether. Yoga stretches are also called postures, or asanas. This is dynamic exercise.

One of yoga’s therapeutic benefits is its lasting effect. When we stretch dynamically, we enhance our everyday activities. And everyday activities are dynamic. Healthy living requires us to use many muscles for each activity, and to move in many directions.

So, after we practice yoga, our muscles and joints feel loose. And everyday activities feel easier to perform.

When you passively receive these stretches from someone, the benefits are exponential!
When your body is relaxed and gently stretched by someone else,
your body releases tension and inhibitions and deeper stretching occurs.

Similarities and differences.

Thai-Yoga massage is like yoga because stretches are involved. Unlike yoga, it is passively received. Thai-Yoga is like massage because its application is relaxing and therapeutic. Unlike typical massage, treatments are often performed on a cushioned mat instead of a massage table.

Yoga and massage both loosen stiff joints and relax tense muscles. They elicit peaceful calm. Participants may meditate and deepen their body awareness.
Yoga and massage are available for athletes, for people severely injured or disabled, and for everyone else!

Why has Thai massage become a hot trend in natural therapies? Yoga, and other forms of Ayurvedic medicine, have become increasingly popular in the U.S.
When a natural therapy combines the best of relaxation and therapy, it’s only a matter of time before people feel its relief, and feeling is believing. Our active agers really like this therapy.

How do I find a Thai-Yoga massage therapist?

Some therapists are trained in massage, while others learned yoga. It is common, however, to find a therapist skilled in both yoga instruction and massage therapy.
Also, wellness spas carry Thai-Yoga massage and Ayurvedic medicine. If you do not have a multi-disciplinary wellness spa or office in your area, folks at your local yoga studio can usually find a therapist for you.
